Default Questions for Camaros

Hello, I own a 1996 Camaro. Its purple, and automatic. I've had some trouble starting it a few months back, and now I'm ready to fix it. When ever i Tried to start my car the security light came on and i couldn't start it. Untill, one day it just stoped strarting. I talked to a dearlership and they told me it was probly the ignition cylender and quoted me $400 for the repair. I want to do the repairs myself and was wondering if anyone else has gone throgh a similar ordeal and could give me some advice.

Welcome to the forum. Is the service engine soon (SES) light on? If so, you need to get that checked out first. It does sound like it could be the ignition module, does your gauges come on when you try to start it? If so, it could be something else. The ignition module is under the steering column, you have to take the bottom trim off the steering column to get to it. It's about a 4 inch long piece of plastic (looks like it's all plastic) and has two plugs going into it. I'm not sure how to test it, but maybe someone else on here can help you with that or a google search may turn up something. Either way, a new module will cost you a little over a 100 bucks from any auto parts store and you would be stupid to let someone else do it for you. But then you need to make sure that's the problem.
