I recently picked up this 97 v6 for my son, who will be turning 16 in March. We gave it a quick cleanup and noted the various broken interior pieces that we need to start swapping out as well as a leaking exhaust and non-working turn signals. Hoping to read up on any known issues with the platform so we can make it as reliable / fun as possible for him over the next 4 months.
Welcome, Slonech, and enjoy the new journey.
My tip is at least buy a Haynes manual helping in tracking problems with turn signals.
Good Father/Son project.
Thank you both very much! I pulled the access panel off and found that the turn signal bulbs on both sides are actually gone and the sockets are really rusted. I am going to replace the sockets, install new bulbs, and then check that relay (if the other items dont fix it). Looking forward to learning more about this platform with my son.
I have a 94 camaro 3.4 5 speed the car ran fine up until 3 days ago and now it is knocking i replaced the injectors in the car and oil but the knock is still there when its at idle the knock is not bad but when you give it gas it gets louder and knocks fast could use all the help i can get to get my car back on the road again
slonech,
You made a great choice in cars for a first car. You want to keep an eye on the coolant systems and level. I would be tempted to flush it right off the bat. Also keep an eye on the intake gasket near the head and the water pump weep hole for signs of leaking. As soon as you see staining replace the gasket or pump. Factory intake gaskets are a known issue, once you swap in a felpro gasket your good for life. Failed intake gaskets are the main reason for scraped 3800. with normal maintenance its a 1/4 million mile engine.
Bill,
You should not high jack other peoples threads. Go to the 4th gen section and ask tech questions.
