i've got a 92 v6 rs that i am going to change out to a 383 and would like to know if the motor mounts are in the same location or am i going to need to position the new motor

you'll have to check with GM and find out if the engine frame mounts have the same part number, The motor mounts will probably work, but get new ones anyway.
