EGR Valve in 1994 basic Camaro V6
Hi y'all.
I'm a new member, and once owned a '78 Type LT, best car of my life. I just bought a '94 V6 in nice condition, with 200,000 miles. The owner disclosed small but recurring issue with the EGR valve, which I think is related to emissions control. They said the car runs rough when the valve needs to be replaced now and then.
This sounds like my experience with my 78, which finally just wore me out. The car ran GREAT but after 150k, it would not start back up after a long drive until it sat for awhile. No repair shop or the dealer could ever say why.
Is this (EGR valve) the likely cause? I had a similar issue with a Dodge Shadow- ran beautifully but now and then would leave me on the side of the road suddenly and I would get towed, only to learn that some little valve had to be cleaned out. This happened 3-4 times a year, and left me in some dangerous situations, as a woman alone at night sometimes.
Should I be afraid to buy the 94? I just love it but I have to feel safe.
Is there a way to fix this issue permanently? Can I take it out and clean it myself before the problem occurs, as a preventive maintenance thing?
Thanks, I would be grateful for your help.
