Brand new build- thought process
I just got a green light from the boss to build a new 69 restomod Camaro.
Im probably putting the cart before the horse, but my mind’s running straight toward the engine.
I’m thinking of going with a 427 or 502 but not opposed to an LS series, just looking for something to really push you in your seat. Besides cost, what should I really be thinking about to make a better decision on which engine to go with? Size in engine bay and being able to work easily is something I’m thinking about, tranny cost and size to support the power…give me your thoughts.

Unless you really like to buy gas the LS is the way to go.
Very reliable and tune ups last 10 times longer.
My little 5.7 (347cid) LS1 with LS6 heads a cam and headers is making 400 hp at the wheels and sets you back in the seat pretty good.
Everyone whos been for a ride in it is usually shocked.
With the manual 6 speed and stock 3:42 gears I can get 26-28 mpg at 70 mph.
I had a '69 with a solid lifter cammed Vette 427 and 4 speed years ago,she got about 8 mpg downhill with a good tailwind.
Loved the brute power of the 427 but I believe my little LS1 is just as fast.
Now you really want to go fast have brute power but still reliable and have somewhat decent gas mileage look at a big LS motor like a 6.0 or an LS7 (427).
The LS7 will be spendy but ohh what a motor! 6.0 LS are a dime a dozen from pickup trucks and can make great power with a few mods.
The little 5.3 iron block is a favorite as well, they get the turbo treatment and make big numbers.
