1995 3.4 camaro egr
i bought my 95 camaro 3.4l from these women who apparently believed knew how to work on car and screw it up is more like it. i see where many people are asking about various lean conditions on these cars and there is something i want to share with you all, that i found on mine.
so i go through all the obvious ideas of where the vacuum leak could be on my car and while changing these spark plugs and wires, i find this strange part laying next to a plug in the center under the egr. after really looking over this part that had no identifying numbers and i had never seen something like this before so the struggle and search was real. i had at first thought that the egr was indeed the problem to begin with and before changing things that werent the cause, i did a full tune up first which it did need so no complaint there. when i saw that this pintle valve and found out i was right that the digital egr was indeed the problem, it explained so much of the miss firing and hissing i was hearing. these women had way hotter plugs installed than this car requires and you can get away with that on a rich condition but not a lean one in the south where its hot as hell. a solenoid had failed and rather than replacing this egr, they went the ghetto route and removed the pintle. as i am writing this, i am still amazed at how stupid some people are to do this. so be aware that if you buy one the 4th gens, this could be a cause for your high idle as well.
