Default 1981 Z28 Headlight Issues

So, getting an old 1981 Z28 back on the road after 20+ years. So far, most things work as they should, drives turns and stops great, but I have no headlights, dash lights, horn, cigarette lighter or dome light. All the gauges, brake lights, radio, backup lights, turn signals, heater, fan, hazards, all work as they should. All fuses and bulbs appear to be good and headlight switch is new. Anyone have any idea what I could be missing here?

Start by checking your wiring and fuses ,then go from there

I have checked both, all appear to be good. Did play with it a little bit more this morning and did notice something. When the headlight switch is on or the door is open, the dome light and headlights work, but ONLY when I'm cranking the engine, otherwise they're off. So something is only allowing them to power up while the starter is engaged? Perhaps starter wiring?

Yup starter wiring, something connected to the wrong terminal I'd say.

I went under it last night to double check, it has the two large wires (battery and alternator I'm thinking) connected to the large post, two smaller wires are connected to the engine side small post, looks to be it. Which I think is correct, is it not?

One terminal should be hot all the time and one energized when you turn the key to start,I think your power to the headlights etc. is on the wrong one if it gets power when you turn the key to start.

Okay, next time I'm under there I'll toss a light on it and see which is hot all the time. Thing is, I actually have another 81 Z28, both small wires go to the inside terminal on it, so figured it'd have to be the same on this one. Only difference, one's a 4 speed car, one's not.
