Default wire in a buzzer for check gauges light?

finally got my 96 camaro running after 6 months and about 10 grand for an engine and transmission and all sorts of other repairs. now what id like to do is wire a small buzzer to my check gauges light. in the past it has snuck up on me before and i didnt notice right away. one of those times i could have possibly saved my old engine. obviously i dont want that to happen again. was wondering if anyone knows an easy place to get to the wires id need to make this work without taking my whole dash apart, and which wires they are?

thanks a bunch

Tie a string around your finger to remind yourself to check the gauges more often. When you have gauges, you're supposed to make it a habit to glance at them constantly. If you do, you should be able to track the rate of change to see that one gauge may be approaching the danger zone, before an idiot light or buzzer goes on.

believe me i hear what ur saying, but if you saw the way traffic is in north dallas you'd understand why its so darn hard to take ur eyes off the road. every time i go somewhere i get cut off at the very least 3 times. i cant tell you how much stupid s--t i see on the road. the buzzer is more of a piece of mind thing to satisfy my paranoia lol.

hahaha cam69er cracks me up.... sometimes.......but instead if a buzzer how bout a red light that comes on if ur oil pressure or whatever gets too low. light comes on u turn the key off, blah blah. just an idea, seen it at the drag track plenty of times.

Whattaya mean....sometimes?
How about a big mechanical hammer to drop on your head when a gauge gets too high? Let's see....some solenoids, micro-switches...I can prolly come up with something that'll work!
Seriously though, that's why gauges are usually preferred. By the time a buzzer or light goes off, it can be too late. To make what you want to work, you would need to run an idiot light setup (engine sensor switches, etc.) in tandem with the gauges. Was there one gauge in particular you were concerned about? Temperature gauge maybe?

I'm pretty sure the car has one of those. It's a red light that come on in the gauge cluster that says "Check Gauges." Oh wait...that's what we're trying to amplify here.

All joking aside, I agree with 69...check the gauges more often. If you really want to wire in a buzzer you're going to have to pull the dash and instrument cluster, find the wire that powers the check gauges light and tie in a parallel buzzer with it. Seems like a lot more trouble to me than to check my gauges when I'm driving...

yea. i was hoping i could tie into the wiring from under the dash or something. that wouldnt be too hard. but no not worth pulling the dash apart.

I got it, I got it!!! Install a portable battery operated buzzer with a push button attached. Then have someone ride shotgun with you keeping a close eye on the gauges.
They can push the button for you when the gauge climbs too high, so you don't have to take your eyes off the road.
Hmmm...I smell patent quality material here!
