Some things you can do to extend the life of your Optispark.

  1. Replace the cap & rotor every 30-60K miles, depending on your budget. We sell the kids for around $28 shipped give or take.
  2. Replace your waterpump when its due or before its due. When it leaks, it leaks into the Optispark causing the module inside to fail.
  3. Be careful with detailing jobs. They often like to spray a pressure washer under the hood. Which is bad enough for most cars, but a death wish for your Optispark.
  4. The next big rainstorm you have, its probably advisable NOT to drive through that puddle!
  5. If you are replacing your Optispark, spend a decent amount of time researching the install. Considering the price you pay, it makes sense to do it right the first time!

My Odometer in the car reads 130,600 (exactly) and my dad said the optispark looked pretty good but we decided to replace it just to be sure.
