Default Water temp question

Just wanted to know whats the normal running temp on my 97 LT-1 is?

On short runs the water temps get to about 215.

Thermostat opens at 185
FANS:
Low peed ON 225, OFF 217
High sped ON 232, OFF 224

Raditor cap vents at about 240, lower at high altitude. 50/50 antifreeze mix

215 on short run sounds about right. On long highway run probably 190-200 depending on speed and outside temp.

I am a mile from work, just had the rad flushed and added new coolant. I let the car sit and run for about 5 mins after i got home!

Just had the rear and front seals redone this week, but still have oil leaking, hope it's not from the intake.

The car sitting around idling will normally get very hot, check that the fans work and cycle once the temp gets up. As for the oil leak, you may very well have a leak between the rear of the intake manifold and the top of the block. Run your fingers back there & see if you can feel oil. The fix is to remove the manifold, replace the gaskets, really clean the mating surfaces at the rear and front of the block and intake manifold, and apply a bead of high temp RTV, and put everything back toghether.

Thanks for the tip!

I will give the finger trick a try. Other than the oil leaks, or leak, the car looks like it came off the show room floor, inside and out! The engine seems very strong and runs smooth, this a stock car as far i know.

Compared to my now sold 03 GT mustange the Carmaro will leave it in the dust!

Well i poked and prodded about the intake, dug my hand as far as it would go behind the intake and dont feel any oil anywhere back there.

Got a flash lite and looked up under the car, and it looks like its leaking around the timing chain cover, i have ground effects on my car so i cant really get up under the car.

I just had both seals replaced, so it will go back to the shop!
