If there's fluid dripping onto your opti there's a very good chance that it'll die, because that's what does most of them in. A new opti from GM is around $300 I believe.

This site has some good info on replacing the opti and the water pump. Especially on how the shafts should look and how they need go in, in order to avoid leaks in the future.

so if the shaft is grooved it has to be replace right?? to what the article says, in the Haynes Repair Manual it says to remove the coupler from the drive gear and check the seal surface on the geared shaftfor grooved shaft. Also should i replace the O-ring seal??

If the shaft is grooved then the seal is probably worn out also.

Are you sure its your water pump leaking? Borrow a pressure tester and check for leaks, it may just be a rubber hose. You'll know when your opti is going bad, your car will run like s***. I had to replace mine the other night. The water pump comes off and goes on only one way. Theo rings on the shaft should be inside the timing cover, the only thing you should need would be new gaskets.
