I personally wouldn't go with that eBay opti. Being that cheap, it is either a reman or a cheap piece of crap from China. Either way, it probably won't last very long.
You really can't go wrong with a genuine GM opti. When I did mine, I replaced it with a GM performance optispark, and it cost a couple hundred bucks.
I got a new water pump from my local Schuck's Auto (now O'Reillys) for about $150. It was more than I expected, but it comes with a lifetime warranty against failures or leaks. So I felt it was worth the money.
The job isn't very hard to replace just the waterpump, it is a bit more involved to replace the opti. It is a lot more involved to replace the plugs and wires, which you might as well do if you are tearing into it to replace the opti.
If you don't have any of the other classic symptoms of an optispark going out, you might get by with just replacing the water pump. But then again, it could run fine for another couple of days, weeks, months, or ???? and then crap out with little to no warning.
Some of the other guys who have been here longer than I can definitely give you better advice on what to look for. I would really listen to guys like Craby and Whammer definitely seem to know what is what with these cars.
