An unusual problem...
I am having one of those "hard to track down" problems with my 5.7...
Most days, it will start and run with no problems at all. However, every once in a while after being stuck in traffic for a while, it will begin to run rough, and it will loose ALL power in the low end (say idle to about 2k rpm's). You can hear it ping, and cough, and it'll shake like hell, untill about two thousand rpm... then it'll go just fine. Sadly, I can recreate the problem on demand, and no lights or anything go off when it's running like that, so I dont know what to tell the mechanic.
Anyone else have this problem, or have an idea where to start looking? Any help would be much appreciated!

This sounds exactly like your ICM (Ignition Control Module) overheating. You should do the ICM cooling mod:
4th Gen LT1 F-body Tech Articles
That should help. And do it soon, or else you will end up like me with a broken down Z/28 on the side of the freeway...
Good luck and kill Rustanks!!!

Sounds like a good place to start. I'll do that tonite.
Oh yeah, I meant to say I CAN"T recreate the problem on demand. It's driving me nuts, since it's not every time the car gets hot, or any other one thing.
TY for the reply! any other ideas out there?

Unplug the small vacuum hose on the drivers side of your intake manifold that runs down the valve cover and under the fuel line next time it acts up. Being that the problem only occurs in the EGR's operating range of 600-2200 it's most likely a f!ault in that system. You should get a SES P04XX code in a bit if your comp is obd2.
Well, I elevated the ICM off the block last night, and then used the quick test on the EGR... (I dont have a code reader) but it looks like the EGR is shot. Ah well, a weekend fix it is!
Thank you all for your help! I hate intermittant problems... if something breaks, it's a MUCH easier fix then a sometimes problem.
