Thermostat Replacement
Alright guys, I know has probably been a fairly beat down topic, but did a search and couldn't find an answer to my liking so here it goes...
I just recently pulled out my '95 Z with 147k on it out of storage and fired her up, and good news, no issues there. However, once I moved it, I did notice a "creamy" beige-color goop on the ground and have no idea what it is. I checked most of the engine fluids and everything looked good. I also let it run for a bit before taking it home and no issues that I could feel, read, or hear there either so I'm still a bit puzzled as what it could be...
As for my real question, for the past couple of seasons now, my LT1 seems to be running a little hotter than it used to. One time, and only once, the temp gauge did get up near the redline but it has not happened since and I have taken it on various test runs to see if I could pinpoint something, but no luck. Either way, I was thinking it probably wouldn't hurt to replace the stock thermostat. I went and picked one up from Car Quest (OEM direct replacement - factory temp) and was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on how to replace it. I didn't think it was a very difficult job, just want to make sure I'm doing it properly as I would like this engine to last at least a few more summers before tear down begins. Do I need to do a coolant flush as well if I'm replacing the thermostat?
Thanks for all your help guys. Happy Memorial Day weekend!
