t3/t4 turbo project
#12
Hot Rod magazine did a few articles on home made turbo setups on dyno stands. They made a lot of horsepower. I would be afraid of the hi compression on an LT1 tho. The tune would be the key I think.
592HP 4.6L 2V Motor For $2,298 - Hot Rod Magazine
This was on a Ford 3V and there was another one on a modern hemi and a LS1 5.3. They got by on the cheap by using chinese turbos. I bet a muffler shop could fab the piping for a remote turbo for $500 or so.

To be honest If it were my car I wouldn't boost it at all unless you beefed up the bottom end and got new pistons with lower compression, 10.5:1 compression and a supercharger is a lot. You will most likely not be able to run pump gas in it. ProCharger Supercharging FAQ’s read the section "what type of fuel...".

Yes Lt-1s are workhorses but it happens, Ive seen race cars blow up so what makes you think it cant lol. It wouldnt be worth it unless he did a full blown motor build with forged internals and lower compression pistons or used trickflow lt1 heads with the larger combustion chambers to lower compression. Oh and dont forget about the tranny and to have the money aside for the rear end after it fails so you can do a 12 bolt or a ford 9in swap. (if it were me id go with the moser f-body 9 in. kit lol, moser's are so nice lol).
