stupid VATS!
ok so here is my question, my 94 z28 has the security light flashing when i try to crank it, but it wont turn the starter so i bypassed the theft deterrent relay and sure enough it cranks right up, but after a second of running the car shuts off like the injectors quit or something , but anyway on a 94 camaro what inputs does the vats use, i know it reads the resistance in the key but i aint sure about the locks and stuff, i heard that the wires in the ignition could do it. also what all does the vats control, like the relay to the starter and the injectors and stuff

RE: stupid VATS!
The computer is too smart for that trick. It is looking for a modulated signal from the VATS module to allow the engine to run. The only way the VATS puts out that signal is for it to connect to the resistor on the ignition key. There are four ways to bypass the module.
1) Retune the PCM to delete the VATS
2) Permanently connect the right value resitor to the module. See this site: http://shbox.com/1/vats_bypass.jpg
3) Replace the ignition switch, or the ignition key. Whichever one is bad
4) Completely rewire the car.

RE: stupid VATS!
does the vats control the injectors and the fuel pump or just the pump, cuz if i bypass the theft deterrent relay it will crank over and start for a second but then it dies like i turned the key off, do i have another problem besides the vats?

RE: stupid VATS!
It controls the starter, the fuel system, and is some versions also the ignition. The computer will not run the engine without the signal from the VATS module. The VATS signal is a modulated code, which cannot be simulated by simple methods. The VATS module will not transmit if it does not see the right resistance value at the ignition switch. Have you tried using a spare key or sprayng contact cleaner into the key slot?
