Starter just spins.
Pretty new to the LT1/LS1 scene so bare with me.
94 LT1/4L60E
Decided to go up to my local subway and eat, started my car up and everything seemed normal. Go to the place and went inside to eat. Came out and my car wouldn't start...
EDIT: Before i went inside i was waiting on a buddy and i sat in the car for like 20mins listening to the radio with the car OFF and ignition on the ACC position.
-All lights work, Dash/headlights/radio etc.
-Fuel pump kicks on.
-When i turn over the key i do not even hear the
starter selonoid click or anything
-Car will not even try to crank.
SES Light is NOT on.
Security light on the dash is NOT on either.
Cars been sitting there for a few days now and these are the
things ive tried:
-Jumping the car
-Leaving the ignition to the "ON" position for 10mins
-Cleaning the little chip on the key
-Tapping the starter
-Ive tried starting in both Neutral and Park.
-Kicking the steering column.
I've tried jumping the starter via selonoid with a screwdrive to make the connection but the starter just SPINS?!
i assumed it was because the selonoid was bad and wasnt pushing out the gear to engage to the flywheel.
I wanna say i have an iginiton problem but i also wanna say i have a starter issue? I dont really see why BOTH would go out at the same time...
Update: After all that i went and bought a BRAND NEW starter/selonoid.
installed them and nothing has changed, car still wont even try to crank so then i got under it again and tried jumping it with a screw driver and it just spins like my old starter did.... idk what to do anymore?
Any help is appreciated!
This is my only means of transportation.

In order for your starter to "spin", the solenoid has to trip, which also throws the bendix gear out to the end of the shaft. I'd say your bendix gear isn't making contact with the flywheel/flexplate teeth. When you replaced the starter, did you take a look at the flexplate? I have a feeling you may have at one time, or just recently, zinged a tooth or more off of the flexplate, and it now has a "dead spot".
+1. Check your flex plate for any missing teeth. It happens from time to time and you only need to be missing 2-3 teeth in a row for the starter to not make contact. That would explain why you only hear the starter spinning when jumping the solenoid.
Not sure about why your key isn't working, unless your ignition switch crapped out on you.
You could have two unrelated issues, that just happened to rear up at the same time.

Yea i examined the flex plate before i put the new starter on just because i have heard of this issue happening.
Ok so i finally got the car started!
but i had to jump the starter, ignition still wont work?
Again theres no security light on so i dont think its VATS?

My ignition key cylinder feels different when its in the crank over position,
i have no security light on. im able to drive the car around after i jump start the starter selonoid aswell....
check your fuses. see if your getting power to the small wire at the starter when the key is turned to the start position. if not see if your getting power to the ignition switch. its under the dash on the driver side a little below were the columm meets the bottom of the dash.
