spark plug HELP
The trick here was getting the right combo of extention and socket. Tried a swivel plug socket, but hated it, flopping around like a dead fish. The perfect fit was using a small 1/4 inch socket with a 1/4 to 3/8 adapter with a standard plug socket and a small pipe(breaker bar extention). It worked for all the plugs. This last time changing them took me less than 2 hours for all. The # 8 plug I was able to get from the top. Oiled up my hand a little and you can slide it down right along the dip stick and there was just enough room to get it. You have to switch hands and try some different angles, but got it easily out and in with my fingers. The #7 is easier to get from undernieth. #5 and #7 I used a piece of hose that fit perfect over the shaft of the plug, this made it easy to get them started by hand. Used a little thread lock as I noticed these plugs will come loose. The 4 plug wires on the passenger side I found an easy way to do without removing your alternator. First, get the number 2 routed WITHOUT the corner bracket in place. Put it on the OPTI and mark the corner with a sharpie. Then do the #8 #6 #4 same. Remove them from the Opti and pull them out a couple inches install the corner bracket lining up your corner marks and push the bracket into place. reconnect them to the opti in the propper order and install the spacer bracket by the opti. take a flashlight from undernieth and make sure the wires are flat all the way up and around. 2-8-6-4 from the bottom up. Took me 1/2 hour. Hope this helps you for the next time.
I just did my plugs so this is fresh on my mind. When you put the plug up to the hole under the header, wiggle the plug as you ARE turning it. It's really tough to get the threads lined up. I dropped my plug atleast 20 times. Haha....seriously.... I also loosened the passenger side header enough to where it wouldn't come off.... just like craby said. It took me a while. But it you just play with it for a while it will go in. DON'T GIVE UP ON IT. You'll get it. JUST KEEP TRYING...I kept having to tell myself that. And it went in.
I tightened the plug closest to the alternator with a box wrench. The socket wouldn't reach. I don't think I was able to use a spark plug socket except on #1, and #3, the rest were the box end.
For the plug closest to the alternator...get on top of the engine and lay across it. You'll have better access than standing. Do this for plug #5 also. #1 and #3 you can get from under the car. tighten them the same way too...
I hope that helps ya out...good luck! you'll get them !
