set valve lash cold or hot?

Default set valve lash cold or hot?

94 camaro lt1- going to set the valve lash and was wondering if I should do it while the car has just been started or let it warm up first and if I should set them cold should I shut the engine down after lets say 5 mins of running or?

What setting procedure are you using, static (engine off) or the engine running method? Either way, you do it after the engine is warmed up.

does not matter if motor is warmed up or not and you can stop after a time if you like but not needed,,,, unless smoke from oil on exhaust wont let you breath.

Due to different metals expanding at different rates, it's best to set the valves on a hot engine.

I'm a lazy sh...... whoops, can't say that on a family site

I adjust with the engine running and warm. You don't get much oil spray at idle but can always stick a chunk of carboard as a splash shield if you want.

You can always use clip on deflectors to keep the oil spray under control.
Mr. Gasket Rocker Arm Clip - Oil Deflector - 1015 - product summary - Bing Shopping

Adjusting while at working temp will be more accurate, especially if using solid lifters. On a new installation you need to adjust cold to get things working, but should readjust hot when the engine reaches working temp.

those are neat

has anyone ever considered a postable sticky in the garage section where we can put links to neat little gadgets we've found/used, good deals or homemade stuff we make to simplify things.....
