Default SES Scanner recommendations

I have a '94 Z28, and I am getting a SES light after several minutes of driving. I am thinking it is probably a bad 02 sensor, but I want to make certain. I've read the cheap $30 scanners won't work, but I also don't have a lot of money to spend on this. I've tried taking it to local autoparts stores and mechanics, but no one has a scanner that will work. My coworkers have OBDII scanners, can I use those if I buy a different cable? Looking for any options here, I don't need anything fancy, just something that will work.

Thanks,
-Matt-

From what I understand, you will have to find one that reads OBDI and OBDII codes. I have the same situation and I have an ACTRON 9180 scanner but the website says it will not work. They sell one that does both but it is almost $300 and comes with the cables. I don't have the SES light on but when I was trying to trouble shoot my "no spark" issue, I wanted to see if it had codes but couldn't.

94 is obd 1 with obd1 plugin so a obd1 scanner is needed and one that will work on a 94. 94 is an odd yr and without the right scanner it will not show codes or a bunch that dont apply.

I picked up an autoxray scanner several years ago that will work on OBD 1/2 on various makes of models for around 400 bucks, might be able to find one alot cheaper now.
