Default Questions about LT1 block size

Im sure some of you hardcore camaro enthusiast could clear this up for me. My friend has a 96 Z28 and he says his LT1 is rated at a little below 350 horsepower but the only mods are a flowmaster exhaust system. I tell him everywhere on the internet it says the Z28 LT1 is rated at 275 and is a 350 Small Block but he says his is a 383? Was there a small number of LT1's made with 383 blocks or does my friend just not know what he is talking about?

you got it! The LT1 was a 350 rated at 275 HP('93-'95) and then in '96 it went up to a rated 285 because they went to a dual cat set-up which freed up the exhaust a bit. The max one from the factory was ever rated at was 305 HP and those were the SS Camaros in '96 and '97. An LT1 with a flowmaster exhaust will yeild a max of 290-295 crank HP since it's a '96, and that's probably being generous.

The car may have a 383 engine, but it didn't come from the factory with it.
