Default Power Loss Upon Startup?? HELP!!

I own a 97 z28 6 speed manual, been workin on the audio system, added an amp and most recent work on it before the problem was grounding it correctly, both the amp and head unit were grounded to the metal under the passanger seat to reduce ground loop noise. Amp connected to battery is on the top of all other power connections. Recently when I would start it up, I would turn the key and it would begin to turn but then cut out, the power stays off for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes when I pop the hood, open my door or something, not sure how that turns it back on... this has happened almost a dozen times now and I suspect it is a short somewhere, anyone have any ideas as to what it might be or where I should start in the diagnosis??

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Sounds like a bad ground. Check the one at the battery and then follow it down to the block.

I have a 97 z and my car does almost the same thing. Not very often but when it happens it is a large problem, when you turn the key to run, all the accesories come on and you can hear the fuel pump priming right? My car would lose power then and all that crap would go dark but i have to get out and move the battery cables a bit, im gonna get that checked/fixed but im fairly sure it is in the wiring. I had a quick fix battery cable installed (negative) and that cured the problem for about 3 months but i was dumb and didnt get it checked. Go with the small things first and dont get taken by someone charging to much. Sry bout the long post and i didnt mean to hijack.
