Overheating?

Default Overheating?

I was driving my car around today...and i read the therometer gauge and it said my car was over heating...but i checked it out and my coolant and engine was fine...it freaked me out because the meter started to get in red...it said "check gauge"... i dont know what is wrong... is the gauge wrong? can someone help me out?

Did you check the level in the radiator? Did you notice if the fans were on when the gauge showed high temp? It they were running, then the engine was hot, if they were not, then gauge could be bad, or the fans & fan relay need to be looked at. My suggestion is to have the car scanned with a scan tool, not a code reader. The scan tool will verify the accuracy of your gauge, as the scanner reads the temp from the ECT sensor while the gauge reads from the gauge temp sender.
