Newbie needs help
hello everyone, i'm pete and i'm new to this forum... i don't have a camaro, yet! since i was a little kid i had always wanted one and when i thought i was going to get a hand me down from my dad (it was one of the pace car ones, with the digital read-out on the bottom of the windshield) he sold it and bought a nissan... and when i turned 16... i got a honda... anyway now i'm 17, and i have a new job (haha my third one) for the summer and i think i'm going to try to buy like a 1993 Z28
anyway any advice on this? kind of a vague question i know but, what should i watch out for? what are common problems? do you think i'll be able to buy a decent one for around $4500? or should i save up this summer and then buy it next fall? depending on how many hours i work that could be another $2000. i plan on getting a 383 stroker kit for it, and engine extras that go along with it, and after that i don't know
thanks for the help!

RE: Newbie needs help
Welcome to the forum. I suggest you get 94 or newer, instead of a 93. The 93 had a few problems which were taken care with the 94 model. Keep in mind that although they are pretty tough cars, many of them led a tough life, especially the ones that have been modified. Most common problems are oil leaks at the intake manifold, worn timing cover seals, motor mounts, transmission mounts, torque arm bushing, and ignition including wires, plugs, and the Optispark distributor itself. Also check for bad auto transmission, hard to shift manual box, slipping or grabbing clutches.

The upgrades included the computer, brakes, fuel injection changed from batch to sequential, fans changed to dual speed, connecting rods upgraded, etc.. The usual first model year problems that are found in most cars.
