misfire at cruise
#51
the coolant flows through the heater core all the time bypassing the thermostat. it helps to heat the air for heat/defrost faster. if you take it out the coolant will free flow through the core heating the air much slower and causing the engine to warm to operating temp slower as well.

More coolant looping through the heater core means less flowing to the radiator. The restrictor is there to make more coolant flow through the radiator to keep the engine from getting too hot.
You'll want to fix that to put it back to how it was.

Well that sucks, the restrictor itself is what had started leaking from where it comes together. The only way I can tell to replace it is the whole heater hose. So far my car hasn't ran any hotter than normal tho.

Running a restricted heater hose is nothing special to your car. Heck, even cars of my vintage had restrictors, if the heating system didn't have a shut off valve. Some were inline, and some used a fitting from the water pump with a reduced hole diameter (about the size of a pencil). You may be able to improvise something, using a smaller diameter pipe inside the larger fitting, or hose.

Sorry its been awhile since I've posted but I ended up making a restictor out of a brass butt connector and a brass plug that I drilled a hole in, that should seal a lot better than the stock plastic restrictor.
Also I still have the misfire when the car warms up. I found a guy with a set of msd wires and a msd distributor that I can get for 175, I'm really only tryin to get the wires but I can't really pass on the deal for a new msd distributor with them also haha. I don't really think the wires are the problem I'm just replacing them to put my mind at rest and so I know its not them causing the problem. I'm actually wondering about the headgasket now. If I had blown it when doin burnouts like just a small leak wouldbt that cause a misfire? And if its a small enough leak I'm thinking it may just leak when the car warms up and the material spreads out some. Or it could be a cracked head but I hate to think of that. What's yalls input? Think a small head gasket leak could cause my misfire?

Well I figured out my problem lol. I haven't had a chance to do a compression test and I still may do it but I went ahead and changed out my wires and my number 7 wire had burnt where it goes behind the exhaust pipe. Guess it must have came out of the guard but it was pretty much burnt in half lol.
