Question LT1 Pinging

couldnt a bad o2 sensor or malfunctioning o2 do this? or even any other sensors? my car is doing this from about 1500 to 2000 rpm, but if it pings even when cold its not a sensor? so then why would it ping all the time? i do have a malfunctioning o2 before the cat as well. needs to be tightened. its so lose i can actually shake it.

im getting it seafoamed tommarow and getting the o2 tightened. then ill run an octane booster since she has been at 91 chevron gas for a long time. what should i tell the mechanic to look for? can this hurt my engine if left unattanded? its been doing this for a while now...

Make sure the knock sensor and related circuit is operating correctly. Any error codes/check engine light on? Technically, you shouldn't be hearing a ping (if in fact it is an octane ping you're hearing) since once the knock sensor picks it up, the computer will retard the timing accordingly. Hopefully it's not a rod knock, or bad lifters.

not sure it sounds like a tiny rattle from about 1500 to 2000 only under light throttle or higher gears. check engine light comes on randomly, last i checked o2 malfunction and random misfire detected. i dont know where or how to check the knock sensors i have heard rod knock and thats pretty loud. this noise is really quiet.

It appears your posts got tacked on to the thread started by 78LT350 which talks about a car with a carb. Now the whole thing is confusing.
Started a new thread for your problem.

can you capture a log or have a decent scanner that also captures data, not just shows codes?

fix your known problems first. how old are the 02 sensors? may want to replace them.

ok so i tightened the loose o2 and it was still "pining". so i took it to my mechanic and we looked around for the issue. couldn't find it. then we realized the heat shield was missing divets and was rattling! so not pinging at all. but i have to remove the manifold so ill throw some headers in when i have to do this. thx for all the advice but i swear and my mechanic agreed it sounded like detonation. who knew?
