I would first get a car a good tune up (plugs & wires), get rid of the ATI chip, put in long tube headers and cat back system (your exhaust is severely restricted as it routes over the rear axle), put a set of 3.75 or 4.11 rear end gears, get your PCM tuned professionally to take into account your mods. If it still doesn't move fast enough to please you , heads, cam, and intake manifold and another PCM tune should get you over 400 RWHP. Make sure your drive traain is in good shape.

hey thanx Z28PETE now that sounds like some good advice. now say i wansn't too engine savy, and had questions or need help doing engine mods. what should i do. im serious about droping some power in my machine and learning more about my car. and am trying to get started this winter so i can race in spring. I also keep hearing about some kind of mailing list people can get on if there interested in buying parts cheaper in bulk with a group of other buyers whats that all about. and can it help me? also about the ati chip what exactly does it do? and why should i take it off? just wondering. thank you for your help thus far. you will prob hear from me again shortly. -drag856

The computer in your car does not accept any chips, the proper thing to do is to get the computer reprogrammed. The ATI gizmo changes sesor data before it gets to the computer in an effort to make more power. This is not the way to go about it. Go to a good bookstore or speed shop and pick up a book on modifying the LT1 engine. Also if you can go for the $100 pick up a factory service manual, worth every penny. As for parts, you can get buddy buddy with a GM dealer and fanagle to get the parts at a trade siscount, usually around 30% off list. A good way to do it, would be to buy a complete kit of matched parts. For a newby his is the safe way to go, because if you have the wrong mix of parts, you may just wind up with less power. Keep in mind that making serious power is an expensive preposition. Also, once the power is available, the drive train & chassis will need to be beefed up to withstand the stress, and put the power to the ground.

i had a 96 z28 and i had a very agressive cam put in polished and ported heads slp longtube headers a 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust a 80 series flowmaster msd ignition an lt4 intake and had it dyno tuned i put 385 ponies to the ground i also had a hypertech power programmer but after all the mods the computer needed more tuning so thats when i got it tuned i would suggest doing all those things to your car and like me wait until you have the car complete until you mess with your ecu as far as gears if you are serious about racing go for 4:11 gears but if you want a daily driver that can still get you low 12's go for 3:73 you should know all these mods will severely affect you mpg i think i was getting 7-8 mpg your tranny might want to get some attention also if its a 4l60e it can handle the power but i would suggest a 2300-2500 stall tc if you have the 700r4 you should do the same also it wouldnt hurt maybe to get them rebiult with some vette parts well good luck and happy racing

That guy had a lot more money in that stang or your car needs a serious tune up. If your car is a manual put a short throw in and a race clutch. unless you are realy hard on a tranny then either find a Viper spec( good for 500HP) or a richmond bullit proof T56.
