How would a hole in my intake and or unfiltered air affect my engines performance?
My key just recently went out on me and i thought it was the starter so i had my free AAA deal and they towed it to my mechanics house who told me to give him the spare and he'd check it out. I havent heard back from him after hes gotten my key... (probably out test driving it... lol) anyway, he said there was some hole or something in my intake that was letting in unfiltered air and my car needed a tune up thats why it was running like "dog sh**"... question is how would this affect my engine?
Also he said something about my battery being jumped backwards or being hooked up wrong and it damaged some module... wtf? lol. I know i need a tune up... money down the drain... and i need to get a radiator flush kuz my heater isnt working... money down the drain.. AND i should probably run some Engine Restore thru my oil kuz i doubt its ever been done.. MORE money down the drain.. lol... at least hes replacing my spark plugs and wires.. which takes like 3 hours... oh wait.. im paying for that too.. money down the drain...[:@]... goddamn i love my car to death! Why cant she just run cherry?!

If the air is unmetered, then the computer doesn't see it, and therefore won't put it into the calculations for how much fuel you'll need. It will make it run lean. Depending on how much air is getting in, it could run rough, or could not.

ok, it runs "rough" in my opinion. Its a beastly car but that just could be the 3in catless exhaust and the lack of a tune up inover10 years im sure.
