Default Performance Engines????

Hi, guys this is my first post and I am new to the camaro scene. I previously owned a 96 stang gt, and now I am looking at some 3rd Gen. camaros. Most of the camaros that I am seeing are 90-92 RS V8 models. My question is what is the difficulty level for upgrading the engine and what are the options, specifically with the electronics? For example, if i were to purchase a 383 stroker could I used the stock intake manifold, etc., and what is needed to be done about tuning the computer? Also, I hear about TBI and TPI whats the difference, is one better, what years do they come on, and does one make a performance swap harder?

Sorry for all the questions what I want is a 3rd Maro' with about 400hp that doesn't mind a 100 shot whenever I do get time for the track.
All thoughts are appreciated.

Lucki someone more knowledgeable here will answer your performance question soon, but I'll try to answer you TPI/TBI question. Both are pressurized systems and both have great cold start driveability and adapts to altitude changes.

TBI (throttle body injection) is similar to a carb. The unit sits on top of your manifold just like a carb but houses 2 large built-in fuel injectors which atomizes fuel to mix with the incoming air. Thus the manifold is considered "wet" because both the air and fuel runs thru it. This system is a little better than a carb because it does not have float problems at severe angles.

TPI (tuned port injection) is similar to you 96 stang. The manifold is a "dry" stream because only air passes thru it. Each intake runner has its own injector located very close to the intake valve so air/fuel has a much better mix before entering the c/chamber.

Nice explaination Sewerrat
As for useing stock stuff. It will all bolt on but things like the intake and exhaust wont have good flow for your 383. Computer tuning can be done with a chip. Jet and Hypertech have 1 and 2 stage chips and I think Motorvation does custum chips which might be more benificial for you depending on what you use for your build.
