Default help ! distributor problems

somebody please give me some advice, I have a 1996 camaro LT-1, yesterday I took out my water pump to replace a leaky seal for the water pump drive, I got a timing cover gasket set from auto zone and it came with all 3 seals for the cover, soI figured I would replace the seal behind the disturbtor whileI had the water pump off, I made marks on it so I could but it back in the same as it came out, but they got wiped off with oil,I put it back in the wayI thought itshould go, soI put it all back together and it wont fire up, nowI know I must have put the distributor in wrong, there's a pin on the back of the camshaft that plugs into one of 3 places on the distributor drive, how can I figure out which one it goes into? do I have to put it on TDC or something? the Haynes manual says nothing about this, its my only ride and now im stuck at the house, what now ?????????????????

The pin goes in esily in only one spot, if you have to use force it is the wrong one, and may damage the distributor.

had the same problem, the pin goes in the one hole that has a little bit larger notch at the top. It will also slip tight up against the block when it is in the right place. If you have any other questions please email me with your number and i would be happy to give you a call and answer any other questions you may have!
