Im not a big LTX guy but i am sure some of the more expericed guys will drop in after the weekend and give you some advice. I don't think it will be a big issue at all. It should be very close to a drop in with very few changes.

Externally the two motors are exactly the same, so it will bolt easily (well...easily when compared to other engine swaps, easy is relative to this situation...). That said, the hard part is probably going to be wiring. Your 95 is an OBDI car and is expecting certain sensors to respond in certain ways, the 1996 is an OBDII car, so it may have some extra sensors or some different part numbers. Something to take into consideration. If you did the swap you would need to get the PCM reprogrammed anyway for the new motor so that could possibly be taken care of there. The other thing to take into consideration is money. The LT4 is a sweet motor, but you can get more power out of modding your LT1 for less cash. If you're looking way into the future the LT4 is going to be a better basis because in it's current state it can rev higher, so if you're never planning on doing bottom end work you would be able to build a stronger more powerful motor out of the LT4, but once again, how much money do you have?

Cliffs notes: Yes it will fit in, but you could run into electrical problems.

does the motor in the 95 currently run? you could buy the motor, swap the heads/cam/intake off of it onto your 95 with minimal headache, and then sell the rest of the motor off as parts. would be fairly cheap and the same end result

That's not entirely true Spec. The LT4 not only had a different top end, but it was also a 4-bolt main, it had higher quality pistons that were taller to help increase compression (stock compression on an LT1 is 10.8:1, stock compression on an LT4 is 10.8:1, it was due to different pistons as well as a slightly smaller combustion chamber on the heads), it had higher quality rings that allowed them to push the motor to a higher RPM more safely as well as a different crank for the same purpose. It sounds like he's in it to say he has an LT4 even though modding the LT1 is way cheaper per HP.

Slvr, I think you had a typo. 10.8:1 = 10.8:1

Gah...my typing has gone downhill since I haven't done it for a week...at least that's my excuse

Stock LT1 is 10.5:1, stock LT4 is 10.8:1

truer words have not been spoken. I look back at some of the "mickey mouse" things I've done throughout the years and smile. It's easier to under take a project when it's sufficiently funded.
