when i get my car up to 105 mph it starts missing and stalling and it wont let me go any faster. is this happening because of a governor?

The subject says 94 formula and your sig says 93 z28 so not sure which car you are talking about but do a search for governor and you will find lots of info on this topic. The way I understand it is if you had z rated tires and a 150 speedo you don't have a limiter. If you do, the 94 can probably be overridden with a power programmer but I'm not sure with the 93. Search though and you will find lots of info the topic has been beat to death.

The cars that had speed limiters were set for 118. If you can't break 105, you have engine problems. Try new plugs & wires first.

You can either PCMforless it or you can get the Hypertech Power Programmer and override it.

Pete, are you sure it was 118? I thought it was 108, we used to own a governed Formula Firebird and it'd only make it to 108, not 118, 'cause didn't they only come with a 115mph speedo?(remeber, I was pretty young when this car was around, but I can still remeber my first trip over 100mph...)

i have a 93 z28 also, and wheni bought it, it was bone stock and i did about 130 a few days after i bought it. I think pete may be right, it just may be electircal problems.unfortunatly, they do not make any sort of aftermarket tuners for our year, so you'll have to get a performence tune at your local performence shop.

You may just be right, they had it seta little belowthe top speed supportedby S rated tires (112 MPH), which back then were considered a step above the unrated tires that were standard on most cars. The 93scan't be reprogrammed with a hand held programmer becausethey still use removeable EPROMS.However there should be chips available from JET or Hypertech that remove the limiter. Otherwise, get a new MEMCAL chip from GM for a Z28 with Z rated tires, may have to give them a VINnumber from a 93 that was not governed.
