I just picked up a set of 3.73's and im going to eventually have them installed. I was just wondering what im going to need?

 

You'll need an installation kit, and depending on what gears you have now, either a new carrier or a spacer for the ring gear.

 

You're going to also need an arbor press to press in the new bearings and a brass free drift punch to take out the old races in the differential. You're going to need a new pinion seal, pinion nut, and pinion washer.

 

don't forget the new crush sleeve, torque wrench, big *** cheater pipe, dial indicator w/ magnetic base, marking compound, bearing splitter (to remove bearing from pinion when you have to change your spacers - you never get it right the first time). I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things. You don't need an arbor press for the bearing, just putit in the oven for abour 5 minutes and slide it on the pinion as soon as it comes out (don't forget the leather gloves). if you've never done it before, get someone who has to help you. setting up rear ends (properly) is an art. if you want to have a shop do it for you, expect to drop about $600.

that's the going rate around here. I would look around your area to see if you can find something you might consider "reasonable" before opting to tackle this yourself, unless you just want the experience and "know how" under your belt.
