The two o-rings go/were supposed to go with the water pump drive shaft.

One goes on the splined output shaft at the timing chain cover, the other on the splined shaft of the water pump, and the drive shaft slips over both. What they're supposed to seal, got me, since nothing flows through those shafts. Except, I did grease up the shafts to squelch any possibility of chatter noise, so the o-rings will hold that in.

A final on the O-rings, what makes the most amount of sense to me is they would be there to make the drive shaft a snug fit.
That top gasket looks like the one that goes between the aluminum flange and engine block?

Is this the gasket set you got? Fel-Pro BS40520. Fits many Chevrolets, GMCs, and more ranging from 1972 to 2004. | StreetPerformance.com
Although the package may say LT1 only, it also fits other engines, such as the 4.3 I believe. You don't use the round one then. Don't you just love when gasket sets trick you like that?

It's gotta be cheaper for them to put together a one size fits all set, instead of separating out certain gaskets and packaging them separately. The only thing they need to do is slap a different label on the package to keep the end user happy....till you start to go on search mission. You're supposed to figure out which gaskets you need going by what you removed. Got any hair left now?
