Default First time owner need HELP!!!

I just bought a 97 z28 two weeks ago, I have already done the basics oil change, all filters, plugs and wires, distributor, and clutch. But a few days ago it started to act up by not wanting to start up right away. Sometimes it does, but then it cuts out. The times it doesn't if you sit there with the key cranked down all the way it will start up once the oil presure gage needle reaches 1/3 to 1/2 off the peg.

MAke sure you have your foot off the gas pedal when staring the engine, otherwise you may confuse the PCM.

How is your fuel pressure? could possibly be a fuel pressure regulator. If it sits overnight does it crank over and over before finally starting, but if you start it turn it off, then go back five minutes later and it starts fine, then there is a good chance it is your fuel pressure regulator.

I have also had this problem, I even ended up discharging my battery completely after futile attempts at turning the car over. The only thing I could do was recharging the battery all the way, and then it fired up right away. I think these things need way too much battery juice.

i know this may seem silly....but are you running premium? My friend drove my car and didnt know to put premium in it and it would not start very well, and also die at stoplights and at idle.

im pretty sure there is a oil pressure switch that can go out. if the oil pressure goes down to a certain level it will kill the car. could also be the fuel pressure regulator. check fuel pressure and/or try turning the key on and let the pump run threw its thing, u should be able to hear it come on and go off. then do it a couple more times before turning the car over. if that works then i would look at the fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump.

Hello, I had the same problem on my 98 chevy silverado and it was the oil pressure switch. Apparently on some GM systems if that switch says that oil pressure is low the fuel pump will not be powered up. Hope this helps
