Default eratic idle sometimes

New to form and lovin the car OMG does it get looks.. 1997 SS 6 spd w/ 30K on it.. Leaked oil bad when I got it. The previous owner had an issue w/ the oil pan seals and had them replaced. Still leaked took it into the dealer they replaced the intake gasket and had to reseal the power steering pump, also replaced the water pump which was starting to leak out the vent holea tiny bit, got a call about now it needs a new optispark cuz its now missing.. lots of dollars later no leaks but the engine "sometimes" seems to idle high, could be 2100 or so... at time its around 3K... will stay there for a few then idle down.. Doesn’t seem to bea pattern to this. It’s annoying as hell and going back to the dealer next week. Any ideas? Dealer said sometimes that’s typical for a standard to idle a bit high, not buying that, car didn’t ever idle high before. Also the check engine light is on, was on before I brought it in they reset it and it came back on. Said it was an exhaust sensor and something I could hold off on... The light came on after a very long wet ride home one night. I was hoping time permitting that my be something I could work in shade tree style sometime. Thanks for any input.

Default RE: eratic idle sometimes

as far as your idle, you probably want to check out the iac (idle air control). Mine did that before i cleaned it and it drove me nuts! You might want to check the condition of your intake bellow as well, that could be why its dirty.
