ussually the cost is about the same as it will cost for a motor that is rebuilt. it of coarse dependant on what needs to be done to the motor. i will have about 5k into mine when done but thats with new block and heads. should be pushin about 400 hp. if your block is good and the cylinders wont need to be bored out, the heads and valves are ok but need vavle job then u will be looking at about 2k for everything. if u want mo power its about 2k to get elliotts to do the heads intake and get a cam of choise. adds some good hp. add five hundred for 1.6 comp cam rockers and a few choise items and u got a hot car. so to build for hp somewhere in the area of 3.5k using your block and heads.

idk wat a rebuild back to stock consists of but i know for my 385 the bottom end cost me $4500 but if your using stock crank stock rods and some different pistons other then diamond pistons you should be able to knock off $1500-2k and lik said above if you want more power you should do heads and cam while your at it. or cam only and spray it

Just a something to keep in mind, there is gonna be unexpected cost. So always estimate high. When ever I start a rebuild I always add in a grand over total estimated cost just to be on the safe side. Nothing sucks more than to start a big project and come up $500 short.

If you plan to use spray it's best to go with low compression forged pistons. And as always forged anything=$$$$$$

you don't need low compression but yeah id go forged. although if its a small 100 shot you dont need forged. but with nitrous everyone always wants more

I'd do two phases... one this winter and then final next...
Get all of the easy bolt on stuff and suspension/wheels all out of the way and then next year do the bottom end

hey gager....complete gasket set top to bottom, rings, rod/main/cam bearings clean passages and new frost plugs was 800$ at the nearest speed shop. plus labor if ur not doing it yourself, plus anything else you will need: plugs, wires, dist, w.pump ect ect... above are just the basics. good luck.

Thank you for your help. I was thinking the price range would be something from $750 - $1500 depending what I wanna get done so that definitely helps clearly some things up for me.
