It would be used for street use mainly. I'm starting to like the idea of a 383... Anyone know of a good place for engine rebuilds?

What I meant was are you gonna have to depend on this car everyday to get you from point A to point B? If so you might wanna keep driveabilty in mind. Dont take me wrong big motors with monster cams and hp are great. But it kinda sucks when you can't get traction on wet roads, your car lopes so hard that it's like sitting on a washing machine with an out of balance load, and you can pass anything on the road except a filling station. Just something to keep in mind if you have no other means of transport. If it's a weekend car, by all means build it into a beast!

You will love a 383 I have one in my 96 but I agree with machine1999z28 if its a daily driver I wouldnt recommend it. Depending on how much you build it will depend on your gas milage too. If its like mine 8 mpg in the city isn't fun.

a well built 355 will run with a well built 383 and you can save some money doing a 355. the power comes from the top end(heads and cam and such). if it were me doing it today, i'd build a nasty 355 with advanced inductions 200cc heads or lloyd elliotts LE2 package

I usually use my camaro for a daily driver in the summer and store it in the winter, but I do find myself using my truck a lot year round. So I guess what I am saying is that right now I would like my camaro to be a bit more powerful than just the stock LT1, but I'm not using it to race on the strip or anything, just the occasional street race and car shows.

How much does it cost to rebuild a stock 350 into a 355? What are some typical specs of a 355? Or do you recommend keeping it a 350 and just adding some mods to it like a K&N filter, headers, etc? And in terms of money, I'm not sure what I am looking at financially right now. I am just trying to get an idea of what my next project should be on this car since I wanna keep it around for a long time and it needs some mechanical and aesthetic upgrades (wheels, ss hood, paint, etc)

have to bore the block .030 over...use the stock crank...i'd recommend putting forged pistons in it in case you want to throw spray at it. but all of this is assuming you have the supporting mods. a stock cubed lt1 can get 450rwhp if you do it right. but a heads and cam package is 2500 or so and all the bolt ons around probably around a grand(probably lowballing that number)

What supporting mods would be needed and this may be a silly question, but what do you mean a "stock cubed LT1?" Does that just mean its the stock 350? Thanks again.

stock bottom end yeah...as in stock crank and stock sized pistons. supporting mods are headers, y pipe, exhaust, cold air intake, gears, stall if auto, then all the parts that go along with any cam swap such as rockers and springs etc
