Default Engine quit while driving, now cranks but no start (96 LT1)

Driving down Interstate 95 doing about 75 mph and the engine just quit. Tried to restart but just cranks. Towed home and sat for 2 days, engine started. Next day engine started again, drove it 5 miles, turned it off and it dosen't restart.
Cranks but no start.
I have replaced the ignition module and ignition coil. Fuel pump is only 2 months old but I have rechecked pressure at the fuel rail. OK.

Anyone have any suggestions??

1996 Z28 5.7 cid, 6 speed tranny, 99k miles

Have you checked for spark?

Also check for injector pulse, it is easy to do. You can even use a test light across the injector plug terminals and look for the light to flash while cranking. Even though it isn't easy you do need to confirm that spark is present like z28pete suggests- knowing the history of these ignition systems.

Thanks for the response. When I posted this thread. I had already checked for spark, which there was none. That is why I replaced the module and coil. I have since discovered that the optispark is bad apparently this distributor is a poor design, dispite the fact that it's in a bad spot. However, for me a relatevly easy fix. A suggestion to you that may also have this problem... my Z28 has 99k on the clock. I would most definitely suggest replacing the water pump, thermostat, spark plug wires and coolant while preforming this repair. You'd be foolish not to.

My buddies 95 z28 has similar issues...intermittent rough idle , dead/stalling pedal, popping noise through intake....dies for no reason mostly slowing down....was fine until he ran it out of fuel and fried the Fuel pump....he has brand new hoses , water pump..and fuel pump, filter.....I will replace the opti , the plugs and the coil... see if that will fix it...

Definitely sounds like the opti. I would also suggest you replace your plugs and plug wires as well
