Emissions question
Hello all,
I just bought a 97 Z28 with 34K miles on it and the service engine light came on as I was driving to work.
I went to a local Autzone and they pulled a P1441 trouble code.
The problem description for the is " Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system flow during non-purge Chevrolet only"
Can anyone decipher what the blank this means?
Is this a serious issue?
I would really like to try and avoid a dealer visit if possible.
Otherwise the car seems to be running very well (except for the &$%%$#%*! skip shift but that is something else....).
Any and all assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rick S

RE: Emissions question
Thanks for the direction, I just looked up the diagram on shbox and I will start looking there.
Is this valve something I can clean or will it need to be replaced?
I am thinking that because the car sat quite alot in a garage the valve may be dirty or rusted.
Thanks again.

RE: Emissions question
The valve would have to be replaced, carbon build up and oxidation prolly took it's toll on the selinoid. It pretty much is a T fitting that allows it to circulate or be vented into the intake. It is not a life and death situation for a motor. You might lose 1 or 2 MPG.

RE: Emissions question (IT'S BACK!!!!)
Well the service engine soon light cam back on again...P1441 code again.
Replaced the purge valve & solenoid and verified the hoses running to the manifold & the short hose leading to the other valve looking item with an vent tube (yellow shaded items in diagram).
Any other ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks again.

RE: Emissions question (IT'S BACK!!!!)
The funny thing is I have heard that gas caps can cause trouble on GM cars but I thought it could not be something that simple.
I'm heading for Autozone right now.
Thanks AGAIN and AGAIN.

RE: Emissions question (IT'S BACK!!!!)
I replaced the fuel cap and everything was OK for 3 days then the service light came back on again and it was the same code (1441).
After beating my head against the wall I pulled the new gas cap off and found dirt and corrosion around the end of the filler neck where the cap is supposed to seal.
I took some very fine scotch brite pad and cleaned the surface up and put the cap back on.
It now has been 5 days with no light so I think I finally nailed it!
Thanks for the great suggestions!
