Default 84 Berlinetta Emissions Question

Father/ son swapping old 305 for newer 305 in an '84 berlinetta. Found lots of anti freeze in oil, got a great deal on another 305. We are seeking opinions on the pros and cons of eliminating the entire emissions side of the wire harness and pursue just running it " old school " , if you will , or trying to salvage all the emissions stuff. We live in NY so we need only a cat/ converter to pass inspection. This is our first swap so we are learning as we go. Someone has already suggested that the carb on that car was run by the computer and would not perform as it was intended w/o the computer and we would need to buy another carb. Any comments on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

you shouldnt have any problems running old school, but the elictronic carbs are crap any ways i took mine and threw it away you can try running it with that carb if it runs like crap just find another qjet and throw it one.
