Not going to lie I never really trust mechanics either... its just too easy for them to screw over the customer. Specially in my case where my car was 40miles from home and not running. I use to be a PC repair tech so I know how one is suppose to **** over people.
In close to this thread I just got the call my car is done... they tried using a used reman which was going to be like $950 but it did not work. So they said they used a new GM part and the grand total is $1280... Merry ****ing Xmas

I think that's a big no no anywhere, plus it's unethical.
That also gave you a reason to have been able to raise hell and made them stick with the quoted price. If they had problems that's going to cost you more and didn't consult with you first, that's tough sh*t.
