CraZ28's Engine Build Thread

Wow, after going to the little machine shop here locally, the guy tried to sell me a dart block and then raised the machining/assembling the short block from 1200 to 1500 hundred bucks. Why do I feel like I am never going to see my engine again? So I am back to my original price of five to six hundred for boreing/honing the cylinders to .30 over, why did he ask me if I was sure it was'nt .35 over, and balanceing my rotaiting assembly. I am sorry but chevy has always been cheap! Just because the government bought them and is now selling overpriced junk is not my fault. I am still considering draining the remaining fluids and smashing it with heavy equipment! And then moving to China! Not to mention the marines were playing with there little howetzer and other prehistoric toys today so don't plan on going outside the next couple days!

Anyways I got my block back and I'm very impressed. It was so clean I noticed my VIN number etched on the back deck. My crank is being sent off to have heavy metal added on the front counterweight. I painted the block with black POR paint, good stuff. I still need to moc-up, notch the block if needed, and make sure of my honken cam clearance!

Here's the block. The machinest cleaned it up great, installed new cam bearings, block plugs, bored/honed thirty over, and he machined the thrust bearing cap just a little so the thicker studs would line it up correctly.
