Default Coolant Reservoir problem

I have a 1996 camaro. I have currently been having overheating problems. My low coolant light has come on but I know for a fact that there is plenty of coolant. the coolant reservoir is overflowing. I was wondering if it is a bad thing that my coolant reservoir was overflowing with coolant.

Bleed the coolant system. What you'll want to do is let the car cool off enough to pull the radiator cap, and take it off. Start the car without putting it back on. Let the car run up to temp so that the thermostat will open. Your coolant level in the radiator should drop at this point. As it's dropping, fill it with coolant. When the coolant starts to rise again, shut off the motor, cap the radiator and take it down the road. See if that fixes it.

the resivor can be full and the radiator low. you need to let it cool and then fill the radiator. you probly should drain some of the coolant from the resivor so its at the proper level. it sounds like you have a leak somewhere, are you seeing any coolant in the oil?any coolant on the ground where the car sets overnight?

Bad coolant level sensor is a common problem. Remove the radiator cap when the engine is cool. If the radiator is full to the bottom of the neck and the lamp is still lit, the sensor is bad. If it is low, fill it to the bottom of the neck, and if the sensor is good the lamp should go off.

no drain plug on the reservoir, you can remove the battery and take it out and drain that way or siphon it out.

Like Craby said, you need to remove the overflow resevoir to drain it out. While you have it out, it would be a good idea to rinse/flush it out as all sorts of crub can build up in there over the years. Also, flush out the hose that leads to the radiator from the tank, make sure that it is not plugged.

We use the physical inspection system that was given to us at birth. The coolant level sensor has been disconnected on my car since purchased
