The waterpump shaft is a little loose ( about .030 on each side ) with the seal removed, I think that is ok after looking at it, but I wasnt for sure about anthing anymore on these cars. Thanks ! Oh ! How's the Crabing going ??

Hope I dont have to replace it cause I will have to tear it down past the timing gears.

crabs are off the bite. fishing dropped off really bad last week. thats why im here bugging 69. lol
heres a place that still carries the drive gear setup. just checked and there site doesnt go to the part i had on it. heres the part #10219554

The splined shaft coming out of the timing cover is just hanging in limbo, on it's own there isn't any outboard bearing to stabilize it. And the water pump driveshaft isn't a super nug fit to either the pump or that shaft. It all seems to work fine that way though, as funky as it is.

I found the problem !!

It was the silicon that i sealed the opti with !!

I had sealed the opti all over and siliconed aluminum ( from a disposible pan ) underneath it to protect it from oil spinning off the crankshaft. The coupling that connects to the waterpump had a wear mark on the outside diameter, so i looked at the opti and sure enough it had a matching wear mark also ! Guessing that the silicon pushed the coupling upwards and wore on the topside of the seal and as the silicon wore off, the shaft fell down some, allowing the topside of the seal to progressively leak more and more. Also i would suggest to everyone to buy a new coupling that connects the waterpump to the driveshaft to lessen the play in the splines to try to keep everything as tight as possible. Also I left the drain holes open on the bottom of the opti when sealing it with silicon.
TY for the info about how loose the fit is on the driveshaft Camaro 69, wasn't sure if it was wear or not.
