Cant figure out how to adjust valves properly

Default Cant figure out how to adjust valves properly

So i pulled the valve cover off , established which the tap is coming from , but cant figure out what the hell to do to fix it.. My grandfather hasnt a clue how to adjust these either... Can you guys help me out please?! We tighted it down..and it got quieter but we thought it might be tooo tight so we loosened it.. My grandfathers been a mechanic for over 40 years... never worked on an lt1.. I have a video on the way.... Its processing guys.. Any help is appreciated.

Also the engine idle is 1000rpm at all times in nuetral..

Nevermind guys.. Im stupid... I was loosening the bolt head and tightening with the allen wrench... Give me a break LOL
