Car not running properly!
Hey guys im 15 right now and I've been sitting my car in the garage for a couple of months now until I turn 16 in March. I've been driving it about once a week and/or just starting it and letting it idle. Its been anywhere from 35-15 degrees outside and when I start it, it starts fine and it idles a little high from sitting but it comes back down within seconds. When I begin to drive it it starts like pulling back I guess you could say and it makes a little like "bulp" noise. When my foot is on the gas the rpm s dont go up. Eventually they will and ill start going again only to be followed by another noise and the same thing happening again. It seems like almost its not getting the gas when I push down on the acceleration. It never did this during the summer, so I figure its probobaly from the cold weather and not running very often. We took to the highway and put some 94 octane gas in it and were going around 95 mph and then and after that it seemed to be running perfectly normal. Only to be followed the next week by the same problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Well im sure its not a weak fuel pump because it was working perfectly fine until the freezing weather came upon it. My question is what exactly is this fuel filter you're referring to.
I had the same problem and I did a complete tune up including the fuel filter, changed the idle air control, throttle positioning sensor and the fuel pump. My fuel pump was not stock and to begin with the pump was only pushing 9psi in which my car needs 9-13psi. If you have a fuel regulator like me on my TBI then you wouldnt have a problem with a aftermarket fuel pump like I replaced for me. I hooked up a holley fuel pump free flow pushing 14psi and it drives awsome now with no bogs or studder. The car normally idles high when its cold and then it drops down once it warms up but for me its normal. I used to have white smoke as well coming out of the back but now it does not do that maybe thats something you might want to check.
The fuel filter is above the rear end about behind the left rear tire. You will need wrenches to get it out.
Dont worry about how it runs right now because your computer is not going through drive cycles and is relearning as you start it to idle. When you drive it and it clears it has gone through a drive cycle and the computer has adjusted. When you start driving it often and the problem does not go away then let us know.
