I have a 96 lt1 camaro with simple bolt ons such as headers intake exhaust...etc. The car has 190000 miles on it!!!! Anyways to the point. I raced a 2007 gt fresh off the lot, still had the temp plates. The guy i raced is by no means a bad driver and it was a manual. We did a 45mph roll and i took him by about a car length! Im sure if we were to go down to the track and race he would probly win a few and i would as well, but the point is they are by no means as fast as ford makes them out to be. Chances are your 97 would eat it alive, plus mustangs have 5 speeds... nuff said!!

A 2008 Mustang GT is slower than an '87 305 IROC-Z, which is quite a bit slower than an LT1 Z28.

Mind you, we're only talking 0 to about 45 or 50, but still.

amen to the z28, my 96, before the dyno tune and haveing the cats removed..... so i had a cat back and a cold air, i raced a N/A cobra, my buddies car and he is a skilled driver, my z had him by almost2 cars at the end of a 1/4 mile, mustangs are "quick" in first gear but the camaro is "fast" in all of em!!!!

I happen to own both vehicles but neither is stock.

When you say faster, do you mean trap speed? or, do you mean 0-60 quicker?

Here comes the flame but I view them as different vehicles. You are talking about 281 vs 350 CID. One is newer, more refined (but the headrests suck) and with body kits, look awesome.

The LT1's are a bear to get to the engine but are a beast in the low end torque.

Seriously, teen and college age girls will say that they like my car when I have the stang. Guys will look at it but that's about it. With the Z, guys come up to it and appreciate it and want to see under the hood. I find the Z to be more comfortable to drive long distances (did I mention the headrests suck on the stang). You have to get the rpm's up on the 281 while the 350 has good low end pull. Again, maybe I'm wrong but I view them as 2 different types of cars. One is more show and fun(with sucky headrests) while the other is more a beast and less show.
