Brake problems on LT-1
Hi guys! My name is Ivan, I am from Moscow, Russia, and this is my first post here.
I have a '93 LT-1 Firebird (w/ABS but without traction control) and experience some brake problems:
1. I need to press brake pedal almost to the floor to brake.
2. Brake pedal sometimes feels floppy.
There are no leaks in the system. I also tried to bleed the system according to manual. Nothing changed.
I think the cause of the problem is master cylinder.
Questions:
1. Could it be something else? (e.g. ABS module)
2. Could you recommend better-than-OEM solution for master cylinder upgrade?
Thank you.

if it pulsates or goes on and off by itself while you are putting the brakes on then i think it would be in the abs. my truck did that and it was the abs. went all the way to the floor and then worked. it pulsated as it was going down. after the first time then it went to the floor before working every time but didnt pulsate every time. you all having a cold spring there to.
Guys, thanks for the answers.
The symptoms are quite similar to mine. Will check ABS first.
Yeah, spring is not the warmest one. But anyway I am sure you do not have snow in DC right now. While we did have in Moscow just yesterday

This link will show u the route to take from where u are. Have fun with that ABS block. Sounds like you have air in it. Hard to get out....gl. I would go this route first..no need to but a master cylinder or brake booster for no reason. Stock is plenty, dont waste your money there, when there are so much better areas to spend it on your car.:-D
There should be 2 bleeder screws on the abs module, bleed the back one first, then the front one. After that, bleed the system as you normally would working from the caliper farthest away from the master cylinder to the closest. Then bleed the abs module again starting with the front bleeder, then the back bleeder. Then you can either use a scanner to cycle the abs valves to free any air bubbles, or if you dont have a scanner you can turn the key on for around 10 seconds or so then turn it off and repeat that around 5 times. Turning the key on and off like that supposedly cycles the abs. Then you are supposed to re-bleed the whole system. Repeat this process until the abs light no longer turns on. Thats what the actual gm repair manuals say to do anyway. It's been a while since I've done this and I don't have the manual in front of me so I might be slightly off. Hope this helps.
