eh well, heres everything

ABSinop light is randomly on and off (Flexi wire?), speedometer does not read correctly (wheel speed sensor?)(ive searched these)

and today my alternator died, before i owned the car it was used in stereo competitions which i guess was the cause to it giving out? it was melted a bit around the positive hookup.

i buy a new alternator slap it in and try to start the car and nothing, no bing noise no starter click, no lights, no radio, battery has a decent charge btw

so i go to unhook the battery again and check things out, unplug everything (alternator, everything connected to the battery etc.) and as i go to hook the battery back up a spark arced about 2 inches from the positive to the battery and a puff of smoke came from the alternator, frying the brand new one.

i gave up after that because i really hate getting electrocuted and had it towed home

help? this car is my baby

 

Is the wire connecting to the back of the alt. in good shape? was it grounded by any chance?

 

it seems to be, ill trace it down tomorrow and look to where it connects to see if theres and damage to it, i may have squashed/severed it when putting the new alt. on

 

The only thing I can lend some advice to is the abs. Check the 3rd brake/spoiler. You may have a bulb out. I just bought a 95 Z and am in the process of ressurecting her from the dead. That has been one of my many probs. Good luck with the alt.

 

so it sparked when you hooked the positive wire to the positive terminal? check the junction box to see if its grounding to the body. its a small red plastic box on the passenger side fenderwell. check any hot wires for the stereo or amps. better get the ohm/volt meter out and get to work.

 

hmm ill check that, its like an oval red box right?

mine seems very loose if thats the one your talking about it comes off easily

 

That's it. It is on the passenger wheel well on my '94. It should not be loose. If it is, that would be one of the very first things that I would fix. All of the power runs through that junction.

should i like bolt it on there? it just connects by two plastic nipples

i dont want another fried alternator

 

no just need to make sure its not grounding, maybe ohm it to see if its grounding. look for any sign of a short.

 

got it all fixed and cars running again

i cleaned and polished every place a ground wire attaches on the car i could fine and looked through all of them just to be safe.
